Akosombo dam spillage: We are in this together – VRA Medical Director

As a result of the Akosombo dam spilling, the VRA Health Service, under the direction of its Medical Director, Dr. Omari-Yeboah, has dispatched medical support and medications to assist flood victims.

Dr. Omari-Yeboah noted that they are collaborating closely with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to send staff to the impacted areas when discussing the medical measures put in place to support the populations.

In order to supplement the work of the medical staff on the ground, doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals have been sent to the area. The GHS has also sent personnel from other parts of the nation. We offer individuals free access to medical, sanitary, lab, and pharmaceutical services.

Dr. Yeboah mentioned that his organization was donating medicines to aid in the relief effort in addition to the additional doctors and nurses who had been sent out.

As a part of our united efforts, we also provided Ghana Health Services with medicines to aid in the relief effort.

The VRA Health Service also supplied medications that targeted particular diseases like cholera, enteric fever, dysentery, worm infestations, skin infections, snake bites, malaria, and respiratory diseases. These medical relief supplies include anti-venom serums, painkillers, antibiotics, hand sanitizers, mosquito repellents, gloves, cannulas, and dewormers.

The victims were reassured by Dr. Omari-Yeboah that this supply of medications and medical supplies was just the beginning of VRA's evacuation plan and that all impacted areas would continue to receive regular shipments of essential medications and medical supplies.

As a trained obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Omari-Yeboah remarked, "No one will be left behind. The health and wellbeing of women and children are very important to me. I will do everything within my power to ensure this.

Dr. Yeboah reassured everyone that long after the controlled leak of the Akosombo dam has ended, the VRA Health Services team will continue to give the community the support it needs. He emphasized that his team was always prepared, with personnel, ambulances, and other medical support, to support the Ghana Health Service's initiatives.

As part of its ongoing support for the impacted communities, VRA keeps delivering relief supplies like big trucks of food in cans, other goods, toiletries, drinkable water, and fresh water tankers on a regular basis.

A growing number of villages are being evacuated everyday, and safe havens on higher land have been established.
To reduce exposure to illnesses and hardships, extra attention is being provided to mothers, children, the elderly, and the sick.
